Heart Cut Open and Love Poured Out

The other day I looked into Heaven
To see what You were about.
I never expected to see You cut Your heart open
And pour Your love out.

I could never have imagined,
Not in the wildest dream,
Of what that torrent would look like,
How overwhelming it would seem.

I’ve seen You armed for combat;
I’ve seen You dressed for war.
But Your love was as fierce as Your battle cry;
It was a call I could not ignore.

It wasn’t warm and fuzzy;
It didn’t soothe my fears.
It told me who I am supposed to be,
No more surrounded by mirrors.

This love demands an answer;
I cannot hold it in.
Keeping it to myself will stop it—
It’s time for the response to begin.

So I keep that image close,
I let Your love consume me.
Then I open the floodgates of my heart
And let You flow free.
